Can anyone answer what I do with the puppy the rest of the time that we are building up her tolerence for the crate. I still have a life to live, sleep to get and a job to go to and I need to have our puppy comfortable in that crate right away. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Crate training does not speed up the housebreaking process. Regardless of the training method, puppies do not develop full bladder control until they are about 6 months old. It is counterproductive to crate young puppies in the hope that they will “hold it” because they are physically incapable of doing so and will be forced to urinate in their crate after experiencing great discomfort while trying not to soil their bed.
My parents new puppy is out of control chewing everything in their house she can get a hold of. Will this stop it????????????????????????
I’m with katielynn5532: Crates/cages are a lazy owner’s way of teaching a dog. The sooner they’re outlawed, the better.

I am trying to crate train a puppy for the first time. I dont understand what you’re supposed to do if it takes “several days” before you can leave the puppy in the crate with the door closed. Does he live outside? Does he live in a playpen? Right now Im getting him used to the idea that he can wait a while and I will take him outside myself.

i crate trained my red heeler at 4 years old, in 4 days, he did awesome now he uses it as his security blanket, if hes scared he goes in there and lays down, takes naps in it, if im home he doesnt have to go in it, but he chooses to sometimes, i even was able to go outside to take some trash down, and when i came back upstairs he was laying in his crate with the door open, because he asociates me being out of the house with him being in his crate! hes so much more relaxed now.
