Question by s..s.stut..stuttering: is this an "okay" way to crate my dog?
i'm thirteen and I have a golden retriever that I am crate training so he can sleep inside. I was going to do it gradually like your supposed to but my brothers said 'outside or in the crate" so i'm forced to "make" him go in the crate...of course I pet him and give him treats while he is there at first and then I cover it up with a sheet and go to sleep. Do you think this will work, and that he will realize it's not that bad...he is fine going in the crate but he hates the door being closed...and my brothers picked him up and put him in the crate): he wasn't scared or anything he was actually wagging his tail.....please don't say i'm cruel I love my dog and I would love nothing more than for him to be able to sleep at the foot of my bead but my brothers don't like dogs much....
he comes inside all the time but my brothers just don't trust him to be outside of his crate for a long period of time without supervision......

I basically did the same thing with my dog. My dog now loves his crate spends half his day in it, but different methods work on different dogs.

I have done more or less the same thing with my 3 dogs (one that I was rehabilitating and no longer have). I would suggest that if your dog cries, whines, howls, whatever in the crate to ignore it completely. Only reward him being quiet in his crate. Do not overly coddle or pet him in a state of mind that is overly excited or upset when in his crate. It needs to remain a place of peace and calmness.
i think you are doing well … if you can get the dog to walk in on his own, either but tossing a treat in or just encouraging him to do so, would be the only suggestion i could make :O)
