Question by Sirius Black: My family and I are going to be going on a 2 hour car trip and we're bringing a cat, what are the rules?

We are going to be going to Sacramento this spring break (my mom, brother, and I) and we are going to be taking our cat. He's about 5 months old and I wanted to know how to go about his food, water, and litter. We have a "traveling cage" thing for him which is a lot of space for him but I don't think he would like to stay in there for 2 hours. We actually took him to the vet for the first time today, and I think since it was so hot he started to breath really fast and starting sticking his tongue out like a dog, and he also started to meow louder than usual. But when we got him home where it was cold he was fine. So I guess we'll just have to have the AC on the whole time. But again if you have any tips please let me know because I have no idea what to do.

It's only 2 hours so the cat will be fine in the cage the whole time. If you want to take him out and hold him, that's totally acceptable, but don't worry about food, water, or potty. The cat will be fine for a couple of hours so feed him before you leave and give him some time when you get there.

Make sure there is plenty of water for him and have some toys to distract him. I traveled from Oregon with a cat several years ago in July. It was 102 coming through Vacaville. I would dribble cool water over my cats head so that it dripped down her nose. She would lick it off. This kept her cool enough to survive the trip wihout getting too dehydrated.
